La Polveriera delle Vignole lends itself well to hosting private events, from small weddings with just a few guests to larger receptions.
It is a beautiful early-August day and we meet up with Guia Camerino (granddaughter of fashion designer Roberta di Camerino) in front of Campo San Giovanni e Paolo to sail as fast as the wind, in her ‘topetta’ (a typical flat-bottomed boat used in the Venetian Lagoon), towards the island of Vignole. A perfect morning where the sun makes the water of the Lagoon shimmer and a thousand splashes cool us down. We arrive at the extreme tip of Vignole Island, where there is a former Austrian outpost, the old powder magazine, a military structure hidden in a charming garden. The setting is evocative, typical of the lagoon landscape, among tamarisk, reed and acacia trees.
On the opposite side, which can be reached by walking under the trees, are the artichoke fields, where Guia has set up an important cultivation of the Sant'Erasmo violet artichoke, which, for those who do not know, is included in the Slow Food Presìdi project. It is highly recommended to those who do not yet know them, to taste these artichokes, which are a real delicacy, one of the spearheads of the products of the Venetian Lagoon.
We sit under the acacias and Guia tells me that in the 1970s this little paradise between the sea and the lagoon was chosen by her grandmother as her secret refuge. Here, in this very garden under the acacias, Giuliana (this is the real name of the Venetian fashion designer) sat in meditative tranquility and drew inspiration for her creations. It is no coincidence that her velvets and silks take up the colors of the Lagoon.
And it is thanks to her and her intuition that this place has remained intact in its environmental, rural and spontaneous balance to this day. Guia, by her grandmother's wish, is its worthy continuation.
